Anzac Centenary commemorated in Menzies
Media Release – 11 May 2015
On Friday last week I visited the Doncaster RSL and local Primary Schools, recognising the excellent work of community organisations to commemorate 100 years since the Gallipoli landings.
I was pleased to welcome a large amount of representatives from local RSLs as well as Major General David McLachlan AO, at a community morning tea to reflect upon the ways the Menzies community commemorated Anzac Day; including the well-attended Dawn Services throughout the Electorate.
The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program (ACLGP) has been an outstanding success in Menzies, with community groups such as the Rotary Club of Templestowe, the Whitehorse Manningham Regional Library Corporation and Doncaster Secondary College receiving significant funds from the Government to commemorate the Centenary.
The Australian Government is determined to invest in local community activities that commemorate the Centenary of Anzac, so that communities around the nation can participate – including in Menzies.
It was inspiring to see so many local residents and community groups commemorate the Centenary with reverence, respect and an awareness of the sacrifice of those brave Anzacs who launched onto the beaches of Gallipoli 100 years ago.
On behalf of our community, I extend thanks to all those involved in Anzac Centenary commemorations in the Electorate of Menzies, particularly the local RSLs of Doncaster RSL, Warrandyte RSL, Templestowe RSL and Croydon RSL.
