VICTORIAN LABOR GOVERNMENT EXPERTS IDENTIFY THE NEED TO BUILD MELBOURNE’S MISSING LINKS

The need to construct both the East West link and a North East link is an important finding by Infrastructure Victoria, according to the Federal Member for Menzies, the Hon Kevin Andrews.

“These two missing links in Melbourne’s road infrastructure have been highlighted in the latest report, All Things Considered,” Mr Andrews said.

“This only reinforces the urgent need for the Victorian Labor Government to recognise their mistakes and make amends.

“The Federal Coalition Government identified this issue years ago and has already allocated funds for the East West link,” he said.

“Given Infrastructure Victoria is appointed by the State Government, the Premier should heed the advice of his own experts and just build the links.”

Mr Andrews said he will continue to advocate for the missing link between the Eastern Freeway/Eastlink and the Northern Ring Road.

“Local residents complain regularly about the congestion in Bulleen and on other major Yarra River crossings, such as Fitzsimons Lane,” he said.

“Bulleen and Heidelberg are gridlocked morning and afternoon, with more heavy trucks and other vehicles using the roads.”
