Media Release – 21 August 2015

The Croydon Hills Men’s Shed will receive $3500 from the Abbott Government to continue to promote and support men’s health and wellbeing in Menzies.

The grant is part of $400,000 in national funding provided to 115 community Men’s Sheds across Australia, under the National Shed Development Programme.

Announcing the grant today, the Hon. Kevin Andrews MP, Federal Member for Menzies, said the Men’s Shed Programme is providing benefits for the community at large.

“The community is benefiting from the projects undertaken in the sheds and family ties are becoming stronger with happier and healthier men,” Mr Andrews said.

“Men’s Sheds reduce social isolation, particularly for older men and men living in rural and remote areas, enabling positive social interactions, enhancing health and wellbeing in the men who attend,” Minister for Health Sussan Ley said.

The Department of Health funds the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) to provide support and resources to new and existing Men’s Sheds and to manage the National Shed Development Programme.

Grants are competitive with priority given to sheds in disadvantaged areas. Further rounds of funding will be available for Men’s Sheds in 2015/16. Details can be found at:
