The spirit of the Anzacs lives on in Menzies
Media Release – 15 May 2015
Today the Hon. Kevin Andrews MP, Federal Member for Menzies, visited two local schools in his Electorate to speak about the legacy of Anzac Day.
The Minister answered questions from students and explained the ongoing importance of remembering the sacrifices of our service men and women 100 years ago, as well as their dedication and service as it continues today.
“It was great to speak directly to students about the importance of Australia’s ongoing determination to protect freedom in our world – both overseas and at home,” Mr Andrews said.
“The fact that so many primary school students want to hear more about Australia’s military past, is a testament to the enduring legacy of Anzac Day.”
Minister Andrews also paid tribute to volunteers at an event held by Doncare Community Services.
“Not only do our defence forces continue the legacy of self-sacrifice shown by our Anzacs – everyday volunteers in communities across Australia do as well.”
“It is important to recognise that without volunteering organisations like Doncare, our community here in Menzies would be much the poorer,” Mr Andrews said.
